UPLB Beta Sigmans: A Chronicle of Brotherhood,
Excellence, Traditions, and Achievements
Before memories fade to oblivion, before fiction
becomes fact, it is essential that we document our Fraternity’s
members, events and achievements.
Hereby to be presented is the roster of UPLB-initiated Beta Sigmans
listed by chronological batch and by college (when Aggie and
Forestry had separate chapters). We now have a better distinction of
who's who and it's easier to trace if a brod's name is missing when
a directory is published. We have in fact unearthed 4 names long
forgotten and excluded in the membership roll. It is interesting to
note that the late Danny Gorrez’51 was the first to have a 3rd
generation descendant join the Fraternity.
Compiled also are the names of all Grand Princeps, senior counselors
and fraternity sweethearts through the years. Our doctrines, which
we all adhere to, are part of this chronicle.
A section will commemorate our stage plays from HMS Pinafore (1953)
to Katas ng Dubai (2003), citing the actors, the directors and
memorable events that transpired during those momentous tasks.
We shall pay tribute to brods who graduated with honors or moved on
to excel in their professional or civic life. As Ed Quisumbing‘56
mentioned, we have more TOYM recipients than any other organization
in the campus or anywhere else.
Anecdotes and memories as a Beta Sigman during the roaring ‘50s, the
psychedelic ‘60s, the turbulent ‘70s, the bold ‘80s, the exciting
‘90s, up to the present, will be fondly recalled. We also hope to
enlighten our brotherhood on the origins of the tatak, the Betan
sipol, Malmon and brods’ aliases, which are an effective way to
evoke recollections of faces and of our one-of-a-kind camaraderie.
The list of our dear departed brothers will be included, henceforth
indicating their date with our Creator, the better to immortalize
them in our thoughts.
An added feature will be OSA’s Revised Rules and Regulations
Governing Fraternities, Sororities and other Student Organizations,
plus other interesting articles.
All of these features will come out as a coffee-table book in 2009.
These official records will serve as reference guide and will be
updated accordingly as new brods join our fold and carve their niche
in the years or decades to come.
